OUR TAKE
Named Best Feature at 2014’s H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, this live-action feature by Henrik Möller, who is best known for his animated shorts and podcast, is a landmark in Swedish underground horror. Like the best of David Lynch and Lovecraft, Möller’s film begins with a claustrophobic setting and puts it in a chokehold. Knowing that film needs light like we need oxygen, he manipulates light and shadow in order to transcend narrative tension and reach desperation – where the irrational thrives, where the fantastic may become sublime.
SYNOPSIS
When her daughter is abducted by her ex-husband, a young mother will track the missing child and its father to a mysterious institution. But once inside, she will find herself trapped in a hallucinatory netherworld where reality turns amorphous, survival becomes parasitic, and an infested darkness lives – and feeds – in the light.
