Before the endless of True Crime documentaries on streaming platforms, there were In Cold Blood. Back then it was something completely fresh, an invention of a whole new template, with Truman Capote doing massive amounts of research and conducting interviews with the murderers, and turning his 8000 page notes into a 343 page turner, non-fiction written as a novel.
The 1967 film version, starring Scott Wilson and later real life murder suspect Robert Blake as the two killers out on the run after the brutal murder of a whole family, is equally as classic as the book. Shot in a realistic semi-documentary style while still with functioning as a Thriller, it still holds spine-chilling power.
