Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.
This is perhaps the finest queer horror work to come out in the 2020s to date. Leave it to Jane Schoenbrun to come up with one of the most stirring trans slogans since David Lynch’s “fix your hearts or die.” In the short time since the release of this haunting psychological horror masterpiece a piece of pink graffiti bearing the words “There Is Still Time” has become something of a clarion call for anyone with a foot still in the closet. Schoenbrun surrounded that message in a mesmerizing and haunting allegory, announcing themself as one of our most gifted contemporary filmmakers in the process (Samantha Allen, Them).
